Adobo Cantina, a new Mexican food station located in the center grill area of Café Evansdale, will officially hold its grand opening on Monday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m.
Adobo Cantina is the result of a new partnership between WVU Dining Services and award-winning chef, author and TV personality Aarón Sánchez.
He will lend his expertise and recipes to Adobo Cantina, which is wrapping up a week of soft opening activities that included a visit by Sánchez to Café Evansdale for a Taco Tuesday event on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Sánchez has starred in multiple Food Network shows, most notably Chopped and Chopped Junior, and he currently is a judge on FOX's hit culinary competition series MasterChef and MasterChef Junior. Sanchez also is the chef and owner of Johnny Sánchez restaurant in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Adobo Cantina, which will serve lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, will officially open with a Fiesta on Monday, Jan. 16, during which there will be several of the station’s new dishes, giveaways and a ribbon cutting.
The station is located in the center grill area of the Café Evansdale dining hall.
Under the guidance of Sánchez, Executive Chef Monica Gaarz and a talented on-site team, Adobo Cantina’s menu will bridge traditional Mexican food with a modern approach and utilize the very best ingredients.
Offerings at this station will be available at no extra cost to all diners that swipe in at Café Evansdale. Including this new station at a dining hall rather than providing it at a retail restaurant enables students with dining plans to have more variety in the food they are getting at the dining hall without needing to use Dining Dollars.
