Grocery store opens at The Market @UPlace, enhanced coffee shop to open at HSC

On Monday, Jan. 11, the Market @ UPlace officially opened the grocery portion of the store with shelves stocked and grab-and-go items at the ready.

The grocery joins Starbucks at the location, which opened at the beginning of the fall semester, to offer groceries including produce, meats, sundries and frozen foods, as well as grab-and-go food items. The location, which is operated by WVU Dining Services, replaces the formerly empty storefront where Sheetz used to be at University Place.

“We did market research to see what college kids are looking for and buying, and we want to hear what the students here on campus want,” Jacobsen said, adding that there are forms at the location to make suggestions for products. “We have endless opportunities to put items on our shelves.”

The Market will be open from 9 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There will be special giveaways at the location throughout January.

Across town, WVU Dining Services is also wrapping up renovations on Cavanaugh’s coffee shop at the Health Sciences Center, as the location will re-open as Jazzmans at Cavanaugh’s on Jan. 25. The location will have a new layout, new styles of coffee, and fresh baked items in addition to grab-and-go items, including sushi.

Students should also stay tuned for the opening of Panda Express at the Mountainlair, which will be occurring later this semester.

As these new locations open, WVU Dining Services will be ensuring they are compliant with physical distancing and other safety measures to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19. Visit the Return to Campus website for additional details.
