Nutrition

Healthy "U" was developed by WVU Dining Services to help students learn to make healthy choices.

This is the best educational nutrition program I have ever seen because it includes all the basic elements, a 2000 calorie daily menu, nutrition information through posters and hall meetings, and one-on-one dietary counseling.

Former Dean of the Culinary Institute of America

Four Components of the Program

One on One

One on One consultations with our staff dietitian to help interested individual students meet their nutritional goals.

Daily Diet

Available in all dining rooms which lists a sample Healthy "U" diet for the day that makes up a 2,000 calorie intake which has been analyzed for nutrient value and contains less than 20% of your daily value for fat, saturated fat, sodium and cholesterol and contains at least 20% of your daily value for vitamins and minerals such as fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium and Iron. It also meets the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommendations for: Less than 65g total fat, Less than 20g saturated fat, Less than 300mg cholesterol, Less than 2,400mg sodium, Fiber greater than or equal to 25g, and Total carbohydrates of 300g

*The 2,000 calorie total leaves room for incidentals and healthy treats throughout the day.

Wellness Centers

Located in each of our dining rooms that describe the program, display the USDA’s "My Plate", contain brochures on a variety of nutritional topics and have the Healthy "U" Daily Diet available that day in each dining room.
